According to a Corus Entertainment statement, Pires commented, “I’m thrilled to start a new chapter at Global BC.” “I’m equally thrilled to be returning to the morning shift and starting work with my new coworkers, especially my talented co-anchor Sonia Sunger. I’m thrilled to play a role in establishing a new era at Global News Morning and providing a vibrant show that remains incredibly regional, educational, trustworthy, and also likes to have a little fun. It’s an honor to participate in the daily routine of viewers and to assist them start their day. “Jason brings a wealth of journalism experience, a deep passion for our community, and telling its stories,” stated Bhupinder Hundal, Global BC’s News Director and Station Manager. “Our team and the Global BC audience will benefit greatly from his humility and authenticity.” Pires holds a special place in his heart for Global BC, then known as BC TV, as it was its pavilion during Expo 86 that initially spurred him to pursue a career in broadcast journalism. The most-watched news program in the province today, Global BC broadcasts films from its Burnaby studios. Pires found it difficult to leave his friends and coworkers at CTV, but beginning at Global has given him that “first day of school” sensation.
