However, the judge gave Das bail and a 30-day window to file an appeal. The Villupuram court released the former Chengalpattu SP D. Kannan with a punishment of Rs 500 after he had been charged by the CB-CID for attempting to prevent the female IPS officer from filing a case against Das. Rajesh Das allegedly harassed her while she was working at CM Palaniswami’s election event in 2021, according to the allegation. Another police officer who ‘tried to stop her’ from submitting a complaint was fined Rs 500.

The female IPS officer accused Das of sexually assaulting her in his car when they were on security duty for the election campaign of the then-chief minister of Tamil Nadu, Edappadi K. Palaniswami, in a complaint she made on March 1st, 2021. She said that at Palaniswami’s meeting on February 21, the special DGP instructed her to ride along in his car. According to the FIR, the senior officer reportedly held her hand and sang “for about 20 minutes” before kissing her hand. “She withdrew her hand and informed him that she was uncomfortable and that the gesture was improper. It reads, “He replied (give him) only five minutes and grasped her hand again. As a result of the strain and worry at this time, perspiration had begun to accumulate on my palms. When he saw this, he offered her his towel to wipe off the sweat. The senior officer reportedly showed her a photo of her that he had earlier taken while paying her workplace a visit. According to the FIR, the IPS officer said to her that he had stored the image as one of his “favorites” so that he could quickly retrieve it.
