Who Was Aaron Bushnell?
The Texas Air Force member was identified as Aaron Bushnell, a 25-year-old software engineer at the San Antonio, Texas, US Air Force. The airman sent himself on fire after recording a video on Facebook on Sunday, February 25, 2024. He was outside the Israeli embassy in Washington DC where he set himself on fire in a protest against the Israeli Army’s operation in Gaza. However, the security personnel outside the Israeli embassy used the fire extinguishers to blow out the fire. As a result, a 25-year-old Texas Air Force airman sustained fatal injuries.
He was immediately taken to a hospital but he could not be revived. Aaron Bushnell succumbed to his wounds at the hospital and was pronounced dead. I am about to engage in an extreme act of protest, but compared to what people have been experiencing in Palestine at the hands of their colonizers, it’s not extreme at all. This is what our ruling class has decided will be normal. Free Palestine!”

It has been many hours since Aaron Bushnell set himself on fire and shared his final message but his post is still up on Facebook while Twitch has taken down the post with immediate actions. Aaron Bushnell wrote on Facebook, “Many of us like to ask ourselves, ‘What would I do if I was alive during slavery? Or the Jim Crow South? Or apartheid? What would I do if my country was committing genocide?’ The answer is, you’re doing it. Right now,”
