Recently, the Chief Minister Siddaramaiah-led Congress government in Karnataka has rolled out its direct bank transfer service under the Anna Bhagya Scheme which commenced on July 10. 2023, Monday. It is known that under the Anna Bhagya Scheme, the Karnataka government has decided to pay cash to creditors at the rate of Rs 34 per kg, for the additional 5 kg of rice under the free rice scheme, which is applicable to every member of a BPL household and Anytodaya households. It was believed that the funds will be directly transferred into the bank accounts of the creditors linked to the Aadhar numbers of the BPL family heads. According to the state government, Karnataka has 1.28 crore ration cards for Antyodaya Anna Yojana and Priority Households. It is said that as much as 99 percent of these cards are seeded with an Aadhar number which added that 82 percent of these cards are linked with all active bank accounts. It is known that the creditors will get the amount in their bank accounts for an additional 5kg of rice at just Rs 34 kg through DBT.

However, according to the government, 22 lakh BPL families may not get benefits under the Anna Bhagya Scheme immediately as their bank accounts are not linked to Aadhar numbers. The Anna Bhagya Scheme which states to provide additional 5kg rice to BPL card holders, was one of the five poll promises made by the Congress ahead of the May 10 Assembly polls.

It was known that out of the 10 kg, five kg of rice will be from the Central government, which creditors have been receiving for a long time. The state government has announced an additional five kg of rice but in exchange, it transfers Rs 170 per month to the bank accounts of creditors. The Karnataka government has taken the path of direct benefit transfer since it failed to procure rice from the Food Corporation of India and other sources. However, there have been examples where creditors have not received their first installment under Anna Bhagya Scheme.

  2. Now, click on the DBT status link.
  3. Select the month, year and enter your ration card number and click continue.
  4. Your DBT status under Anna Bhagya will be displayed on the screen
