Madhya Pradesh polls 2023
The Bhartiya Janata Party (BJP) and the Congress are preparing for a high-stakes contest in Madhya Pradesh ahead of the 230-member assembly elections. Three of Jyotiraditya Scindia’s supporters, OPS Bhadoria from Mehgaon, Munna Lal Goyal from Gwalior East, and Raksha Sanoria from Bhander, were denied tickets, according to a Times of India story. This appears to be causing some dissatisfaction in the BJP as the candidates’ names are being revealed. Rakesh Shukla from Mehgaon has been awarded the ticket instead, and Maya Singh from Gwalior East and Ghanshyam Pironia have been given Bhander’s ticket.
BJP leader Munnalal Goyal’s supporters demonstrated on Sunday outside the Scindias’ Jai Vilas Palace in Gwalior after he was not given a ticket for Madhya Pradesh’s assembly elections, which are scheduled for next month. The BJP unveiled its fifth list of 92 candidates for the November elections on Friday. Goyal, who has previously represented Gwalior East, did not receive a ticket. Maya Singh, a candidate from Gwalior East, has been nominated by the BJP. Jyotiraditya Scindia drove to the palace gate and claimed to be supporting Goyal and the demonstrators in an attempt to appease them.
“We have come here to ask Scindia that the candidate of Gwalior East be removed and Munnalal Goyal is made the candidate,” one of his supporters remarked during his speech. Nobody else can get the seat. There’s someone who can’t even walk appointed to the position of candidate. Congress is being given the seat on a silver platter by us. We are therefore hurt. We have come here to request because of this. Although we support the party in winning the seat, we have nothing against the party or the current candidate.” Munnalal Goyal, a member of the Congress party at the time, was victorious from Gwalior East in the 2018 elections.
