700 disabled people play Garba

While the nation celebrates Navratri, the Adishakti holiday, with characteristic fervor and faith, the Divyang Navratri Mahotsav in Ahmedabad has hosted Garba Fest to inspire those with disabilities. The occasion has been a yearly tradition for the past six years. At this ceremony, almost 700 individuals with disabilities, including seniors and young people, performed Garba in honor of Aadyashakti Amba. “I was playing Garba along with my friends at the playing surface about a decade ago when I saw a disabled person at the venue,” said Divyang Garba Mahotsav organizer Vipulbhai to ANI. I was inspired by his presence and decided to host a Garba for the disabled that same day. Six years have passed, and counting. Today, almost seven hundred people with disabilities from Gujarat and the surrounding areas came to play Garba.”

“It’s a great initiative. We have been coming to this Garba, which Vipul Bhai has been hosting for the past six years, to take part in the festivities and atmosphere. So don’t feel excluded from this. Each year, we look forward to the Garba and have made a lot of new acquaintances. Many believe that we cannot play Garba because we are confined to wheelchairs. But that isn’t how the event’s organizer sees it. He conducts the event as though he were one of us. We have the chance to wear traditional Navratri attire because of the event. We get to meet people and wear traditional clothing,” one participant said to ANI.

Devotees worship Maa Durga’s nine incarnations throughout the nine-day Navratri celebration to receive her blessings. Every day of Navratri is associated with a manifestation of the goddess. During these nine days, people observe ritualistic fasts, chant shlokas dedicated to each goddess, wear new clothes, make Bhog offerings, and clean their homes. They beseech the goddess for her blessing so that they would lead prosperous, joyful, and satisfying lives. Devotees fast and offer prayers to Goddess Durga for the next nine days.
