On Saturday, July 8, 2023, the prime minister of Singapore Lee Hsien Loong launched the Healthier SG roadshow along with Health Minister Ong Ye Kung. Since the registration for Healthier SG opened more than 67000 people have registered for Healthier SG which is the preventive care strategy of Singapore. During the launch of Singapore’s preventive care strategy, Ong Ye Kung updated on the sidelines of the first Healthier SG roadshow held at Bishan Ang Mo Kio Park. As Prime Minister launched the event where he was the guest of honor, more than 67000 people signed up for it which is a record-breaking registration from the people of Singapore for this preventive care strategy. People who are eligible for Healthier SG can choose between a polyclinic or clinic and they can also get an appointment for their free consultation. People who registered themselves with this strategy include people with chronic illnesses such as high blood pressure and diabetes who have registered with GPs (general practitioners) since May. In 2022, Healthier SG announced that its target was to get doctors to help people take charge of their health. Residents and family doctors come up with a health plan that includes regular check-ups and lifestyle changes.
The registered people with Healthier SG will get a free annual check-up and recommended vaccinations for the flu. In addition, the cost of the medicine will be lowered for the people who signed up with Healthier SG which will encourage them to stick with a family doctor. Health Minister Mr. Ong said, “Enrolment is just the first step. After that, they have to turn up for the first appointment, and after that, they have to follow up. We do hope that within the next one to two years, we can enroll the majority of those who are targeted.”
