The season opener of the Xfinity Series came as a lesson for Hailie Deegan as she chalk-up an opening stage exit once again at Daytona International Speedway. The NASCAR Camping World Truck Series driver said after involving in a four-car accident at Daytona, “I’ve had a bad relationship with Daytona, ever since my first Truck race here. It’s been hard for me. I’ve never been able to conquer or, at least, figure out what the right way is, Should you hang back? Should you go? Where is the danger zone?”

Deegan further added, “Still working at it, but I think the next one will be a little bit better, a little more at play.” As mentioned, Deegan was involved in a four-car accident, she was on Lap 23 along with Sam Mayer, Kyle Weatherman, and Daniel Suarez, when she crashed her car into Daniel Suarez’s car and ended up skidding toward the wall off Turn 1. As a result of the crash, Deegan finished her debut full-time Xfinity race at the 37th position.

Before this Deegan participated in Xfinity in 2022 at Last Vegas where she finished in the 13th place which was the best by any female driver in history. After that, she was all set to debut in the Xfinity Series as a full-time racer on February 17, 2024, at Daytona International Speedway.  Suarez who was one of five drivers who competed in both legs of Monday’s historic Daytona doubleheader, called the accident a chain reaction. He said, “They slowed down in front of me. I slowed down, and somebody came from behind and hit me. Nothing else I can say, I don’t know what I could have done differently.”

The accident happened when Daniel Suarez was running outside the top 15, and encountered a single-file line checking up in front of him, prompting him to lift off the gas which caused the driver behind him to fail to react and hit the outside wall.
