West Edmonton Mall shooting Incident explained
In a parking lot at West Edmonton Mall on Monday night, two groups engaged in a shooting, the Edmonton Police Service reports, inflicting at least three injuries. Acting Chief Darren Derko told reporters on Tuesday morning that although there are no persons of interest and no arrests have been made by the police, the shootings appear to have been targeted. According to Darko, “It seems like one group was waiting for a second group of four males who were inside the mall.” Four men are said to have left the mall and gone to their car when a second vehicle, a white SUV, pulled up next to them and started shooting at them.
In the confrontation, three of the individuals who were initially inside the mall were shot. The members of the other group have not been named by the police, and it is unknown whether any of them were hurt. Darko claimed that two members of the first gang fled the scene of the gunshot and entered the mall again. One was taken to the Wild West Shooting Range with gunshot wounds, while the other escaped through the mall without any apparent injuries. The person hasn’t been located by the police. The other three members of his group were brought to the hospital and are anticipated to make it out alive.
Around 7:40 p.m. on Monday, the mall was placed under lockdown as tactical officers evacuated the structure. After more than two hours, the lockdown was lifted at about ten o’clock. Officers subsequently found a firearm inside the shopping center that is thought to belong to one of the shooters, Derko added. As the victims needed medical attention Monday night, police were planning to interview them Tuesday. Darko claimed that as a result, he was unable to offer any other details, including the victim’s age.
