Shaakuntalam Box Office Collection Day 5: Hip or Flop, Budget, Review and Ratings

Shaakuntalam Box Office Collection Day 5 saw a better opening than her previous release Yashoda. Read further to know more. Samantha Ruth Prabhu’s Shaakuntalam, which is inspired by Kalidasa’s play Abhijnanashakuntalam released in the theatres on Friday to a mixed response. The mythological drama by Gunasekhar didn’t draw huge crowds on its first day and earned Rs. 5 crores across all languages as per industry tracker Sacnilik.

Shaakuntalam got an overall occupancy of 32.60% in Telugu states. The film has Samantha in the titular role of Shankuntala and actor Dev Mohan plays Dushyanta, the king of the Puru Dynasty. Now, to maintain a steady run in the cinema halls in the coming week,  the movie must pick up the pace during the weekend. Samatha’s previous release Yashoda started off with approximately Rs 3 crore at the box office and ended its first-weekend run with Rs 10 crore net at the box office. The film’s lifetime collection in India was around Rs 20 crores. When compared to that, the movie’s future looks more promising.

From the trailer, seemingly it made on an enormous budget. It also stars an ensemble cast including actors like Mohan Babu, Allu Arha, Aditi Balan, Gautami, Sachin, and Ananya. In its home market, the film grossed around Rs. 2.25 crores and it managed around 1.60 crores gross internationally in North America being the major contributor. The other 45 lakhs came from other languages and that gives a total of around Rs4.80-5crores at the worldwide box office. It is to be seen how the film trends from here on.

Shankuntalam is a mythological drama, whose world is depicted in a very beautiful way. Shankuntala was abandoned by her parents in her childhood due to some reason and she grew up in Sage Kanva’s hermitage. When Shakuntala met King Dushyant, the duo fell in love and married Gandharva. King Dushyant leaves Shakuntala in the ashram and returns to his kingdom, promising to take her back after doing the necessary work. But, Dushyant forgets about Shakuntala due to Durvasa Muni’s curse, then Shakuntalam tells the story of Shakuntala’s sacrifice and struggle. Our cultural heritage is rich. And the story of this film is inspired by one of our oldest classics. Apart from the story, the movie has high-level graphics and special effects. The film is released in Telugu states 2D and 3D formats besides in its dubbed versions in Tamil, Kannada, Hindi, and Malayalam languages.
