Inside Cloutier’s home, officers noticed her cell phone and immediately made contact with her. Initially, Cloutier claimed to have made a brief trip to a nearby 7-Eleven to purchase laundry detergent after putting her son to sleep, stating that no family members were available to watch him. However, the absence of a receipt for the half-empty detergent container and Cloutier’s unusual attire consisting of a black mini dress and full makeup raised suspicion regarding her late-night convenience store visit.
As the investigation continued, Cloutier was read her Miranda rights and eventually confessed to having met with a friend who lived 11 miles away. Amazingly, she did not seek the assistance of nearby relatives, including her mother, aunt, and cousin. Cloutier acknowledged her mistake, explaining that her home lacked surveillance cameras to monitor her child remotely. In the report, she attributed her initial falsehoods to anxiety.
Further examination by the officers revealed that Cloutier’s son had been left unattended for over an hour, placing him in potential danger near hazardous elements such as wildlife, vehicle traffic, and bodies of water. The gravity of the situation escalated as news of Cloutier’s arrest spread on social media, leading her to make her TikTok, Twitter, and Instagram accounts private. In a since-deleted video, she addressed her followers, denying several online claims as distorted and untrue.
Shortly after, the investigators made the decision to arrest Cloutier, allowing her to bid goodbye to her son. The arrest video depicts Cloutier being handcuffed by officers, who then escort her inside a waiting police vehicle.
