Is Darren Brownlie signed by Dundalk FC?

As their first new addition during the summer transfer window, Dundalk has announced the signing of Scottish defender Darren Brownlie. The 29-year-old center-back leaves Partick Thistle after his contract with them expired and joins Dundalk on a free transfer. His relocation to Dundalk, however, is subject to international approval. The next week, Brownlie will meet his new teammates in Gibraltar. He will wear the number 19 shirt for his new squad. This meeting will take place prior to the opening leg of the FCB Magpies vs. UEFA Europa Conference League match.

Brownlie expressed his excitement at the change, saying, “I’ve been thinking about trying something new for a couple of years so when the opportunity came up to come to Dundalk, I was really excited by it.” Brownlie emphasized his excitement for Dundalk’s continuous league run-in, cup tournaments, and future European games, in contrast to his prior experiences in Scotland, where joining a team meant immediately entering the preseason. Scottish footballer Darren Brownlie, who was born on April 10, 1994, is a center-back for Dundalk in the League of Ireland Premier Division. Over the course of two stints, he had played for Ayr United, Cowdenbeath, Queen of the South, and Partick Thistle.

Brownlie, a Bellshill native, began his professional career at Ayr United. On July 8, 2012, Brownlie made his Honest Men debut against East Stirlingshire on the road in the first round of the Scottish Challenge Cup. He played the entire game. Two weeks later, Brownlie made his Scottish Football League debut, playing the entire game in a 1-1 tie with Stenhousemuir in Scottish Division Two at Somerset Park. Brownlie had two cautions in the last of his 16 league appearances that year, a 2-1 loss at Forfar Athletic, the first for giving up a penalty kick with a foul on Chris Templeman and the second for dissent after the official’s decision to give the spot kick.
