The United States Geological Survey states that the magnitude of the earthquake was around 7.0 and was centred 96.5 kilometres (59.8 miles) north of Tuban which is a coastal city in East Java province. The depth of the tremor was 594 kilometres.  Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysical Agency of Indonesia stated there was no danger of a tsunami but already warned the people about the possible aftershocks. The agency also placed a preliminary magnitude at 6.6 Variations in early measurements. Now people from other countries are looking forward towards the videos shared by the people during the earthquake.

As always the videos of the earthquakes have been shared by several citizens of Indonesia on Twitter. As expected the videos of the tremors are making rounds all over social media and viewed by local citizens and tourists in the neighbouring provinces of Central Java, Bali and Yogyakarta panicking as homes and buildings shook for many seconds. In some places, the authorities ordered evacuations, sending streams of individuals into the streets. The citizens of Indonesia along with tourists are frequently hit by volcanic eruptions, tsunamis and earthquakes because of its location on the arc of volcanoes and fault lines in the Pacific Basin which is known as the “Ring of Fire”. Fortunately, no human loss has been reported as of now.

Indonesia’s Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysical Agency said there was no danger of a tsunami but warned of possible aftershocks. The agency put a preliminary magnitude of 6.6 Variations in early measurements are common. An earthquake of magnitude 7.0 struck Java, Indonesia on Friday, the European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC) said. The quake was at a depth of 368 miles, EMSC said, and struck at 4:55 pm local time (0955 GMT). with Indonesia’s geological agency ruling out a tsunami. The quake was strongly felt in the parts of Surabaya, Tuban, Denpasar, and Semarang, Abdul Muhari, spokesperson for Indonesia’s Disaster Agency, told a news agency.

Multiple videos are circulating on social media which showed local residents and tourists in the neighbouring provinces of Central Java, Yogyakarta, and Bali panicking as houses and buildings swayed for several seconds.
