Hundreds Of Passengers Stranded In Railway Station

According to an official on Monday, up to 800 passengers on a train headed for Chennai were left stranded at Srivaikuntam in Tamil Nadu’s Thoothukudi district after heavy rains that were unusual for the area caused mayhem. The Tamil Nadu districts of Kanyakumari, Tirunelveli, Thoothukudi, and Tenkasi are also in a paralyzed state due to the rainfall. The train, which left the temple town of Tiruchendur and was headed to Chennai, left its passengers stuck in Srivaikuntam, the worst-affected area by flooding, for almost twenty hours. On Sunday, December 17, the Tiruchendur-Chennai Egmore Express started at 8:25 p.m. According to a railway official, the train was stopped at the Srivaikuntam railway station because of flooding and severe rain.

After severe rains hit a portion of Tamil Nadu, the state administration decided to call in the Army, Navy, and Air Force to help restore normalcy. Numerous thousands of people have been taken out of the areas devastated by the rain. Transport in the Tirunelveli-Tiruchendur segment, between Srivaikuntam and Seydunganallur, has been suspended, according to Southern Railway, due to ‘the ballast’ being washed away, the track ‘hanging’, and water flowing over the railway tracks. Many rail services that ran through the southern areas have been completely cancelled, partially halted, and redirected.

The temple town of Tiruchendur, which is situated in the Thoothukudi district, also had very significant rainfall, with measurements ranging from 62 to 69 cm, according to the news agency PTI. Four ministers Udhayanidhi Stalin, EV Velu, P Moorthy, and RS Rajakannappan have been assigned by Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin to supervise rescue and relief efforts in districts affected by flooding. In a letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the Chief Minister requested a meeting to discuss Tuesday’s rainy conditions in the state. In addition, he requested funding for the relief efforts being carried out in Chennai as a result of Cyclone Michaung’s recent effects.
