Hardik Pandya ruled out of World Cup 2023
An ankle injury that Hardik Pandya suffered during India’s match against Bangladesh on November 19 at the MCA Stadium in Pune has forced him out of the 2023 World Cup. As a result of his ankle injury not healing, Hardik Pandya will miss the remainder of India’s World Cup 2023 campaign. The all-rounder suffered the injury last month at the Maharashtra Cricket Association Stadium in Pune, during India’s game against Bangladesh’s Hossain Shanto.
The 30-year-old Hardik twisted his ankle halfway through his opening over and went down. He stood up later with his leg firmly bound following treatment. But he was unable to bowl anymore, and Virat Kohli ended up bowling the final three balls of the over. Mohammed Shami was added to India’s playing XI following Hardik’s injury, and in just three games, the latter has taken 14 wickets at an economy rate of 4.27. He also claimed five wickets in victories over Sri Lanka and New Zealand. Pandya has been replaced in the team by Prasidh Krishna in the meantime. On Saturday, November 4, the pacemaker was accepted as a replacement by the tournament’s Event Technical Committee.
Krishna is available for Sunday, November 5th’s encounter at Kolkata’s famous Eden Gardens versus Temba Bavuma’s South Africa. In the Syed Mushtaq Ali T20 Trophy, Krishna recently represented Karnataka and took five wickets in as many games. Unless there are some unanticipated circumstances, it is unlikely that Krishna will have a shot soon because players like Mohammed Siraj, Mohammed Shami, and Jasprit Bumrah are already doing well. With two four-wicket hauls to his credit, Krishna has taken 29 wickets at an economy rate of 5.60 in 17 ODIs thus far. On September 27, 2023, he participated in his last One-Day International (ODI) match at Rajkot’s SCA Stadium between Australia and India.
