According to Indonesia’s geophysics agency BMKG, it was a mid-size quake that had the epicenter at a depth of 25 km or 15 miles. The tremors of this medium-sized quake were felt in several parts. The region of Yogyakarta and center Java which is the country’s most popular island witnessed the tremors of the quake. A statement has been released by the Disaster Agency of Indonesia. Abdul Muhari, the spokesperson for Indonesia’s disaster agency asserted the department was assessing the loss incurred to the properties in the city of the Gunung Kidul, Yogyakarta, and Kubemen districts in Indonesia. The department also added that Indonesia located in Southeast Asia is a highly active seismic zone where numerous plats on the Earth’s crust strike which led to a huge number of earthquakes and volcanoes.
