EFCC Boss Arrested
The Kogi State High Court also directed the Inspector General of Police to effect Abdulrasheed Bawa’s arrest. Reportedly, he will be held in the Kuje Jail for the next 14 days and remanded until he purges himself of the contempt. This decision came out for disobeying a court order which was issued last year on 30th November. Sumaila Abbas who is the counsel to the applicant had dragged the EFCC chairman to court for detaining and arresting Ali Bello illegally while the court ruled in his favor for the EFCC to arraign him for alleged money laundering three days after the ruling. The arrest order came after the court asked the EFCC Chairman to explain why he should not be sent to jail for flouting the court order. He was summoned to court on December 12, 2022, in a complaint filed by Ali Bello against him and EFCC.
The Kogi State High Court had said the arrest of the applicant in the face of a subsisting court order made by a court of competent jurisdiction and without an arrest warrant or being informed of the offense for what reasons he was arrested” was unconstitutional and in contravention of the personal liberty and dignity of the human person guaranteed under Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria 1999’s Chapter IV.
