The national commissioner of correctional services’ most recent visit to Pretoria’s Kgosi Mampuru Correctional Center helped to clarify the circumstances behind her arrest. When Dr. Magudumana and Thabo Bester were detained jointly in Tanzania in April, their association with one another came to light. Bester, a killer who had been found guilty, had been detained in Kgosi Mampuru, but Magudumana’s fate had taken a different turn and she had ended up in the medical wing of Kroonstad jail. On 3rd May 2022, Bester was allegedly helped to escape from Bloemfontein’s Mangaung Correctional Center, where he was serving a life sentence, by Magudumana and five other former G4s prison employees. At first, many thought he had lit himself on fire in his cell to commit himself. Bester’s circumstances were clarified by Thobakgale, who revealed that he was being detained in a highly advanced cell that was managed by an integrated security system. This fact strengthens the case’s fascination by indicating that Bester’s prominence has called for tighter security.
The commissioner, however, did not go into detail as to why Dr. Magudumana was kept at Kroonstad Prison Hospital rather than Kgosi Mampuru. The legal struggle for Dr. Magudumana is ongoing even though the circumstances underlying her detention are still unclear. Her appeal case to reverse the earlier decision regarding her extradition from Tanzania to South Africa was heard at the Free State High Court in Bloemfontein on 14th July 2023.
