To identify the source of Salmonella disease a multi-agency Outbreak Control Team has been formed, representing the health board, PHW, and the council. The chair of the Outbreak Control Team Richard Firth who is also the consultant in public health at Public Health Wales said, “Public Health Wales is working with colleagues from a range of partner organizations to investigate this cluster of cases and to reduce the risk of further spread of infection. Infection with Salmonella can cause watery and sometimes bloody diarrhea, headache, nausea, abdominal pain, fever, and vomiting. Mr. Firth also referred to the Salmonella illness as an unpleasant illness as people ill with Salmonella usually recover completely but serious health complications that can occur in frail, very young children, people with impaired immune systems, and elderly people. Therefore, Richard Firth urged people if anyone who is concerned about his or her health should immediately reach out to their GP or call NHS Direct Wales.
He said, “Although it is an unpleasant illness, people who become ill with Salmonella generally make a full recovery, but serious complications may occur in frail, elderly people, very young children, and people with impaired immune systems.
