Murder Mystery 2 is a 2023 American action comedy mystery film directed by Jeremy Garelick and written by James Vanderbilt. It is a sequel to the 2019 film Murder Mystery and stars Adam Sandler and Jennifer Aniston. Murder Mystery 2 was released on March 31, 2023, on Netflix.

In October 2019, it was announced that a sequel to Murder Mystery was in development with Adam Sandler and Jennifer Aniston reprising their roles. In August 2021, Jeremy Garelick as director from a script by James Vanderbilt, with the filming of the sequel to take place in Paris and in the Caribbean. Sandler and Aniston confirmed their returns during September 2021 at the Global Fan Event.
The first installment in the Murder Mystery franchise saw husband-wife duo Nick and Audrey Spitz venture to Europe on a surprise for their 15th wedding anniversary. They score an invitation to a party on a yacht by a billionaire, Charles Cavendish but in a typical fashion akin to the boardgame Clue or an Agatha Christie novel. The characters start dropping dead and an elaborate plot of revenge is unearthed by Nick and Audrey, who prove themselves successful amateur detectives. As a reward, they get to continue their dream honeymoon trip all paid for by Interpol.

In Murder Mystery 2, our favorite, slightly dysfunctional married couple are newly licensed private detectives, owing to their success in solving the case from the first film. They had a glamorous wedding and found themselves on a tropical island.
In an interview, with Insider on March 30, 2023, Murder Mystery 2’s director said he had lied to the cast, including Sandler and Jennifer, about how the film would end and to keep the identity of the killer a secret. He further added that he thought about changing the ending, depending upon what was happening, and comically said that we have kept it hidden.
He further added his statement and said he also got the actors to say their lines in different ways and tones to create more mystery and suspense. The main reason for doing this was to maintain balance. Murder mysteries are kind of like a game where you participate as an audience member going along the journey with the actors.
