Mayor Vico Sotto
Mayor Vico Sotto said on Sunday, July 2, that the local government has plans to transform the current city hall into a stronger and more vibrant seat of government that will be known as the “Pasig City Hall Campus.” This is in an effort to envision Pasig City beyond its 450-year history. The statement was made as the city held its annual Thanksgiving Night event to mark its 450th year of establishment. The campus, according to Sotto, is the largest infrastructure undertaking in the history of the Pasig local government.
According to the conceptual plan made public, the Pasig City Hall Campus will eventually consist of a collection of solar-powered buildings containing the various offices and departments of the local government as well as areas for organizations from various industries, conference rooms, and function rooms. The buildings will be surrounded by public open green spaces with fountain displays, extensive pedestrian walkways, and areas for relaxation. A tower with a spire at its core will allow members of the public to look out over the entire city. A portion of the Pasig Mega Market will also be located on campus, with more up-to-date and organized booth and stall divisions offering both wet and dry products, as well as food courts or eating places and specific food areas.
Sotto emphasized the necessity for a city hall that serves as a safe haven for its residents and is inclusive of all residents, young and old. The mayor of Pasig disclosed that several fissures and cracks have been observed and reported on the walls, floors, and other parts of the municipal hall even before Sotto took office as mayor of Pasig in 2019. There have also been complaints about leaks, uneven footing, and other problems inside the structures. Sotto stated that they employed a third-party consultant to examine and evaluate the infrastructure of the city hall and that the consultant came to the conclusion that the city hall’s four buildings were “not structurally sound.” Technically, it was still secure, but with time, the structural integrity would deteriorate.
