The Golaghat SP was charged with misbehaving with a forest department official and unlawfully holding him after he failed to get tickets for his family’s elephant safari. Himanta Biswa Sarma, the chief minister of Assam, has strongly urged public officials to maintain their modesty in the face of intense outrage following allegations of inappropriate behaviour by the superintendent of police in Golaghat. This comes after Rajen Singh, the Golaghat SP, was charged with misusing his authority. According to reports, the Golaghat SP illegally held Tarun Gogoi, an official with the forest department, until midnight since he did not have tickets for the elephant safari.
According to reports, Golaghat SP Rajen Singh had asked for five tickets for his family to go on an elephant safari, but Tarun Gogoi, a forest official, was unable to make arrangements because all of the tickets had been sold. However, according to reports, the Golaghat SP called him and reprimanded him while using derogatory words. Subsequently, he picked up the forest officer at midnight and illegally held him in Kohora Police Outpost for more than four hours. “I spoke to the Director General of Police, Assam Sri @gpsinghips regarding the incident involving the Superintendent of Police, Golaghat,” the Assam chief minister wrote on X after the situation became public. We oppose haughtiness, and public employees should maintain humility in both their attitudes and deeds.”
“I have read it in the papers and we have to consider what both sides have to say about the incident,” Assam’s director general of police (DGP), Gyanendra Pratap Singh, said in response to questions from the media over the incident. I spoke with the SP in the morning and inquired about it. He informed me that he was the one responsible for handling misbehaviour. But from what I’ve seen in the media today, they took a whole different tack on it. I have also asked the district commissioner for the incident’s details.”
