Bobby Kotick Leaving Activision Blizzard

Since 1991, Kotick has served as the company’s chief executive and has been embroiled in numerous scandals. Bobby Kotick, the CEO and founder of Activision Blizzard, is formally departing the firm as a result of Microsoft purchasing the massive Call of Duty franchise, as was first rumoured over two years ago. According to reports, Kotick was requested to stay on temporarily by Microsoft Gaming CEO Phil Spencer after the transaction was consummated in October. Now, as many had anticipated, Kotick is formally leaving Microsoft. “Phil appreciates our abilities and shares our values. He has a strong enthusiasm for our games and the developers behind them. In a note to staff, Kotick stated, “He has audacious ambition.”

Activision Blizzard is reportedly giving Kotick a whopping $400 million in compensation when the CEO leaves the company. The Verge reports that Kotick will formally retire on December 29. Though he might not be replaced directly, Microsoft has reorganised under Xbox executive Matt Booty, placing vice chair Thomas Tippl, president of Activision Blizzard, and president Rob Kostich of Activision Publishing under Blizzard president Mike Ybaara. Vice chairman of Blizzard and King Humam Sakhnini is departing at the end of December, and Activision Blizzard communications chief Lulu Meservey is leaving on January 31. No names were given, but The Verge revealed that “many other” Activision Blizzard leaders are departing in March.

Activision Blizzard recently disclosed that it has settled with the state of California, agreeing to pay the state $54 million in addition to an additional $47 million to female employees who were employed by the business between 2015 and 2020. Activision Blizzard was charged in the 2021 lawsuit of encouraging a “frat boy” working culture that was riddled with sexual harassment.
