George Alagiah, an award-winning journalist, passed away at the age of 67, according to his agent. He leaves behind his wife Frances Robathan and their two kids. George Alagiah, a former BBC News at Six presenters, is married to Frances Robathan. She was born in London in 1960. Frances worked with the Fairtrade Foundation for 18 years, starting in 2002, as the Senior Partnerships Adviser. She was also the Foundation’s Head of Institutional Fundraising and Head of Programme Partnerships. Following their acquaintance at Durham University, where they both studied, George and Frances got married in 1984. In a prior interview, the presenter discussed his profession and 37-year marriage.

“When I look back and I looked at my journey… the family I had, the opportunities my family had, the great good fortune to bump into [Frances Robathan], who’s now been my wife and lover for all these years, the kids that we raised… it didn’t feel like a failure,” he said on the Desperately Seeking Wisdom podcast in 2022. Adam and Matthew are two of George and Frances’ kids. George claimed that despite being well-known as a celebrity, his sons kept him grounded. When your children advise you to stay in the car while dropping them off at school, “Dad, don’t get out of the car,” he told, “it’s sobering.”

George lost his courageous fight against intestinal cancer, it was revealed on July 24, 2023. George died quietly today, according to his agent, who also mentioned that he was surrounded by family and friends. She said, “George battled valiantly, but regrettably that war ended earlier today. Everyone who came into contact with George, whether they were friends, coworkers, or members of the public, adored him.
