The Whitefield-Challaghatta Metro Corridor, generally known as the Purple Line of the Bengaluru Metro, officially opened to the public today, or on 9 October. Public access was granted for the 2.05-km Kengeri-Challaghatta and 2.1-km Baiyappanahalli-KR Pura sections. These sections are a part of the 42.85 km long Purple Line, which will run from Challaghatta in the west to Whitefield in the east. The commuters had long been calling for metro train service in these two stretches and had launched numerous web campaigns.

According to Mohan, Prime Minister Narendra Modi has directed the Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL) to start operating on the additional portions of the Purple Line immediately rather than delaying operations for a ceremonial ceremony with VIP attendance. “PM Narendra Modi Ji has instructed BMRCL to throw operational services on the new stretches of the purple line (Challaghatta to Kengeri and Baiyappanahalli to Whitefield) immediately and without delaying the operations to hold any formal inauguration ceremony with a VIP presence,” read a statement posted by PC Mohan on X.

In addition, Mohan criticised the Congress administration for delaying the PurpleLine for the Bengaluru Metro despite CMRS approval. “Despite CMRS approval on September 25, the Congress government in Karnataka postponed the #PurpleLine for the Bengaluru Metro. In contrast, the Central Government approved operations in just two working days after receiving the request on October 5th. The difference between the Congress and Modi governments is obvious, he wrote on X. The Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL) announced that all terminal stations will begin operation at 5 a.m. The final train will leave Whitefield (Kadugodi) at 10.45 p.m. and the other terminal stations at 11.05 p.m. The 37-station travel by metro from Whitefield (Kadugodi) to Challaghatta will take about 82 minutes. According to media sources, the cost of the metro train from Whitefield (Kadugodi) to Challaghatta will be between 57 and 60 rupees.
