The tragic news broke on the morning of July 8, 2023, and left the internet in a complete state of shock. The former Manchester United and Netherlands goalkeeper, Edwin Van Sar is in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) after suffering from bleeding around his brain. The news was announced by his former club member, Ajax on Friday. Currently, it was reported that the 52-year-old is stable at the hospital. His former, Ajax published a statement on Twitter quoted on Sky Sports and claimed that Edwin has had bleeding around his brain. He is currently in hospital and an intensive care unit is taking care of him and he is in a stable and conscious condition.
He added that he will update everyone after concrete information reaches him. However, no further details were given by the club about the goalkeeper’s condition and what led to his hospitalization. Moreover, his former club Manchester United and Fulham in the United Kingdom, where he spent years competing in the top-flight football of Premier League, also extended their support to Edwin. The Manchester club tweeted by wishing him well and sending him love and support. Majorly, Fulham is a side that Edwin represented for four years before joining Manchester United, so people at Fulham too tweeted and wished him a speedy recovery.

During that time with United, he won the Premier League four times during his six-year-stint from 2005-2011, which made him have 186 appearances for the club. He also won the UEFA Champions League with the club in 2008. He also won the 2008 FIFA Club World Cup and League Cup with Manchester United. Moreover, he also represented Ajax from 1990-1999 who made 226 appearances with them. He also won the UEFA Champions League with the Dutch club. He moved to Juventus, for which he made 66 appearances before signing with Fulham in 2001.
