The announcement by a British chef that he will no longer serve plant-based customers at his Australian restaurant has angered vegans all around the world. When John Mountain, a native of Preston, Lancashire, responded negatively to a review from a vegetarian or vegan, he made controversy by saying, “F*** vegans… they can f*** off.” At Fyre in Perth, where a “monster lamb shank” costs 24 pounds, the 55-year-old has subsequently banned any such patrons, citing “mental health reasons.” The restaurateur has drawn attention before, though, most notably during a remarkable appearance on the BBC’s Great British Menu more than ten years ago.
