Banjir around Lahat, Sumatera Selatan: Impact of Flash Floods in 6 Districts and 3 Submerged Villages

According to the reports, recently on Thursday, 9th March 2023, South Sumatra was struck by flash floods. The catastrophe happened after heavy rains flushed that happened around the Lahat district. Where the water in the Lematang River, Lahat Sumsel overfilled from Wednesday, 8th March 2023 to Thursday, 9th March 2023 in the morning. As a consequence of the downpour disaster, a number of the citizen’s houses were badly affected and damaged because of being swept away by the current. Answering the flood disaster, the Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD), Lahat South Sumatra (Sumsel) recorded a number of catastrophes generated by the flash floods that happened last Thursday, 9th March 2023. As per mentioned in the data, as several as 181 citizens’ houses were damaged and at the same time 1 citizen passed away. Apart from that, as per information because of the heavy rains that have struck the Lahat district for 2 days, 6 districts have been inundated. Besides it, landslides also happened in 2 sub-districts.

Kunto Hartono, Lahat Police Chief AKBP to Media, Thursday, 9th March 2023 that “From the ephemeral data we get, there are 4 sub-districts for ephemeral floods. Concerning landslides, these are in 2 sub-districts, 2 villages.” The videos of the pandemic are making rounds all over the web and people are showing their interest in it.
