On Tuesday morning, August 1, 2023, Cedar Point revealed its plan for restarting Top Thrill Dragster which has been dubbed as Top Thrill 2. It was also claimed that Top Thrill 2 will be the tallest and fastest triple-launch strata roller coast ride in the world. Strata coaster refers to the roller coaster ride that has a height of 400 feet, a Cedar Point feat first pioneered when the Top Thrill Dragster opened in 2003. The vice president and general manager of Cedar Point, Carrie Boldman said that everything was on the table when deciding what should become of the iconic ride, including potential demolition. The vice president said it had to be saved but to reimagine completely the ride experience from light coaster trains to a new launch system. She said, “We’re really excited. We feel like this is a one-of-a-kind coaster.” Reportedly, Zamperla Rides are doing the construction and redesign of the 420-foot-tall tower. The Chief Executive Officer and President of Zamperla, Antonio Zamperla said the company has been working hard on the design for about a year and a half for the coaster including a new launch system. According to Zamperla, the new launch system will rely on magnets. They are aiming to keep the huge tower built off of that. “You don’t want to tear down an iconic piece. This is part of the skyline. This is an icon. It would be like removing a mountain.”
