Venezuelan University Education Minister Lucena dies at the age of 63. On Wednesday morning the death of the Minister of the University Education of Venezuela and former President of the National Electoral Council (CNE), Lucena was announced. Lucena was born in Barquisimeto. She studied cello and performed with Venezuela’s National Youth Orchestra and Simon Bolivar Symphony Orchestra (1980-87). Lucena earned a BA in sociology from the Central University of Venezuela and worked as a researcher at the Institute of Advanced Studies of Administration. She then pursued graduate studies in the United States, earning an MA in sociology from the New School for Social Research in New York. Unfortunately, the former President of the National Electoral Council and Minister of the University Education of Venezuela, Tibisay Lucena, passed away.

The news of her death was confirmed by the executive vice president who in a message broadcast on Twitter called her “insigne daughter of Venezuela” and “true militant for life, and fought her last battle without truce”. Additionally, she extended her condolences to Lucena’s family and friends.

In turn, President Nicolas Maduro regretted her physical departure and stated through the aforementioned social network and wrote, ‘It is with great sadness that we have to say our last goodbye to a  woman of great battles’. The head state classified her as a patriot defender of democracy and education in our country. She was born in Barquisimeto, Lara state on April 26, 1959, and studied Sociology at the Central University of Venezuela (UFC). She was in charge of the CNE for 14 years, the period from 2006-2020. In the same year, September, she was appointed rector of the Experimental University of the Arts, a job she carried out until October 2021, when President Nicholas Maduro appointed her Minister for University Education.
