A hotel operator has been arrested for allegedly stabbing a police team while stopping the sale of chickens in a newspaper with pictures of gods in Uttar Pradesh’s Sambal Nagar. Police Superintendent Chakresh Mishra on Monday quoted a report filed by senior sub-inspector Ajay Kumar as saying that a man named Talib Hussain was selling chickens on paper with pictures of gods and goddesses at his hotel in Sambal Kotwali area. When some people complained about this, a team of police reached the spot. There are allegations that Talib attacked the police with a knife during the investigation.

He said the case was filed against Talib under Section 153 ‘A’ (spreading hostility), 295A (damaging or desecrating a place of worship for the purpose of insulting any class of religion) in the case late Sunday night. He was arrested on charges under sections 353 (obstruction of public order) and 307 (attempted murder). Mishra said a newspaper copy with a picture of the goddess and a knife used in the attack were recovered from the spot.

A person named Vishal Kaushik tweeted about the matter. A large quantity of paper containing Hindu deities was also recovered from Talib Hossain’s shop.
