Excessive downpours persist in numerous regions of Kerala, Tamil Nadu, and Puducherry. Up till November 24, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecasted the probability of significant rain in a few isolated areas of Kerala. The Tamil Nadu government has ordered all government and private schools in the districts of Tirunelveli, Kanyakumari, Thoothukudi, Tenkasi, Viruthunagar, Pudhukottai, and Niligiri to close today due to the forecast of heavy rains. On November 22, the Kerala state’s Pathanamthitta district was placed under a red alert by the IMD. A Shibu, the Pathanamthitta district collector, issued an order on November 24 banning nighttime traffic between 7 p.m. and 6 a.m. as well as tourist activities like kayaking and boating in the district’s hilly regions.

The notice was issued because there was a chance of intense, ongoing rain, which might cause landslides, mudslides, and localized minor floods. Travelers visiting Sabarimala have been encouraged to exercise caution and vigilance, particularly at night, due to the red alert that has been issued in the district. In the districts of Thiruvananthapuram and Idukki, an orange alert was also issued for November 23. The district of Thiruvananthapuram’s mountainous terrain and numerous highways were inundated due to the heavy downpour. A yellow alert was also issued by the IMD in every other district, with the exception of Kerala’s Kannur and Kasaragod districts.

Over the next five days, Kerala may have mild to medium rainfall along with thunder and lightning due to cyclonic circulations over Tamil Nadu, according to the weather service. A press release from IMD states that thunderstorms, light to moderate rainfall, and gusty winds are possible today in one or two locations in the state’s districts of Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam, Alappuzha, Pathanamthitta, Kottayam, Idukki, Ernakulam, Thrissur, Palakkad, Malappuram, Kozhikode, Wayanad, and Kannur. The Karaikal and Puducherry regions also had a lot of rain the day before. In light of the circumstances, the territory government announced a holiday for schools on Wednesday.
