Today, October 14, Prime Minister Narendra Modi will open the 141st meeting of the International Olympic Committee (IOC) at the Jio World Centre in Mumbai. Members of the International Olympic Committee gather during the IOC session to discuss important issues about the Olympic Games’ future. Almost 40 years have passed since the 86th IOC session was held in New Delhi in 1983, and this is India’s second time hosting the IOC session. According to a statement from the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO), India’s hosting of the 141st IOC Session demonstrates the nation’s dedication to promoting international collaboration, honouring athletic excellence, and advancing the Olympic ideals of friendship, respect, and excellence.

According to the press release, the session will be attended by IOC President Thomas Bach, other IOC members, notable Indian athletes, and representatives from several sports federations, including the Indian Olympic Association. On October 13, PM Modi also opened the ninth G20 Parliamentary Speakers’ Summit (P20) at Yashobhoomi in New Delhi. The Indian Parliament hosted the P20 meeting as part of India’s overall G20 Presidency. After the African Union joined the G20 in September, the Pan-African Parliament took part in the P20 Summit for the first time.
The P20 Summit’s thematic sessions highlighted significant topics such as accelerating the SDGs, transforming to a sustainable energy future, and transforming people’s lives through public digital platforms. Devendra Fadnavis, the deputy chief minister of Maharashtra, aimed at the Congress on Friday and questioned their willingness to name an OBC as the next prime minister. While the official bidding process has not yet begun, there has been discussion of India entering the running to host the Olympics, maybe in 2036. IOC President Thomas Bach stated that there are “serious considerations” about the prospect.
