Mompha Arrested: EFCC re-arrests Mompha over Alleged N6bn fraud

Mompha Arrested
On May 15, the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) said that Ismaila Mustapha (alias Mompha), a social media star accused of laundering N6 billion, had been re-arrested. According to a statement from the commission, as part of Mompha’s bail conditions, the commission told the court during a hearing on his case on June 10, 2022, that Mompha was in possession of another passport in addition to the one that had been provided to the court. The commission informed the court that Mompha had disregarded the court order by using the same to fly on Emirates Airlines from Ghana to Dubai on April 11, 2022. Due to Mompha’s refusal to appear, Justice DadaMo canceled the N25 million bail variance granted to him and issued a bench order for his arrest.
He was also listed as sought by the EFCC. According to the Commission, Mompha has been missing from the trial since June 16, 2022, and efforts have been made to have him apprehended and brought before the court. On September 22, 2022, Justice Dada determined that the trial will proceed in absentia because of his persistent absence from the court and the inability of the prosecution and defense to produce him there. S.I. Suleiman, the EFCC’s attorney, informed the court during today’s hearings that the prosecution had successfully secured the defendant’s arrest through cooperation with its overseas allies. The EFCC’s legal representative, Mr. Suleiman Suleiman, informed the Ikeja Special Offenses Court that the prosecution has secured the arrest of Mompha.
