This will help achieve equitable and affordable access to vaccines. “We will redouble our efforts at the WTO to secure a TRIPS exemption for COVID-19 testing and treatment,” the minister said at a session of the Voices of the Global South Digital Summit.

The ‘Global South’ broadly refers to the developing countries of Asia, Africa and South America. “We need to build new partnerships and mechanisms so that the voices of the ‘Global South’ are heard when decisions are made,” he said. On strengthening trade ties, the minister said that India is ready to enter into preferential trade agreements with countries of the ‘Global South’ to take advantage of the significant trade potential.
