Sharad Yadav was Minister of Textiles and Food Processing in 1989-1990. On 13 October 1999, he was given charge of the Ministry of Civil Aviation. Subsequently, on 1 July 2001, Sharad Yadav was elected as a Cabinet Minister in the Union Ministry of Labour.

Outstanding Member of Parliament Award

In 2012, Sharad Yadav was given the ‘Outstanding Parliamentarian Award 2012’ for his outstanding contribution to Parliament. The then Lok Sabha Speaker Meera Kumar gave him this award.
