Mel Tucker Press Conference Today: What Happened To American Football Coach Mel Tucker?
Mel Tucker is an American football coach and former player. He has held the position of head football coach at Michigan State University since 2020, and as of my last knowledge update in September 2021, he was still in that role. Prior to that, Tucker served as the head football coach for the University of Colorado in 2019. In addition to his college coaching roles, Tucker has experience in the NFL. He temporarily served as the head coach of the Jacksonville Jaguars for the last five games of the 2011 NFL season. He has also worked as a defensive backs coach at several universities, including Ohio State, Alabama, and the University of Georgia, and as the defensive coordinator for the NFL’s Chicago Bears and the University of Alabama. One notable development in Tucker’s career was the significant contract he received from Michigan State in November 2021. This 10-year, $95 million contract made him one of the highest-paid coaches in college football history.

Brenda Tracy alleges that Mel Tucker invited her to speak to student-athletes about her traumatic experience of being sexually assaulted by three Oregon State University players and a high school recruit 25 years ago. Tracy bravely accepted this recognition from USA Today, and she has received numerous invitations from Michigan State University (MSU) to address the MSU football team and acknowledge her advocacy work with her non-profit organization, Set the Expectation. Even the honorary captain for last year’s spring game was named in her honor, highlighting the widespread impact of her inspiring speeches, which have reached thousands of athletes on more than 100 college campuses.
Tracy claims that their interactions led to a friendship, but she asserts that on April 28, 2022, Tucker initiated non-consensual phone sex. She firmly maintains that she did not consent to this behavior and filed a complaint with the school in December 2022. In response to Tracy’s complaint, Tucker refuted her allegations when speaking to a Title IX investigator that MSU had retained to investigate the matter.
When approached by a USA Today reporter for comment, Tucker declined to provide a statement. However, Tucker wrote a letter to the Title IX investigator in March, expressing that “Ms. Tracy’s distortion of our mutually consensual and intimate relationship into allegations of sexual exploitation has really affected me.” While acknowledging that he was not particularly proud of his judgment, Tucker insisted that he had not violated any rules of conduct. .Harlon Bennett, the secondary coach, will serve as Michigan State’s interim coach, while Mark Dantonio will assist in an undefined role.
